3 Ways to Use Blogs in ELA...

So thinking about ways to use blogs in my class, I have to say I have it easy. English often struggles with ways to incorporate technology, but this type of blogging makes it easier. Here are a few ways I could think about using blogs for the kids:

1. Reflections - I always talk about the need to reflect more after assignments, especially their writing. While the kids are writing their work on GoogleDocs, it could be fun to have them blog reflections and label them with tags. Then, we could sort by tags and have the kids pair up with other students that are struggling in the same areas to practice. Or, we could pair up with a student who says their negatives are another student's positives...

2. Book Review - I used to have an awesome interactive book review database on my moodle page years ago. Since I no longer use that page, I've been trying to figure out how to use Google to make something similar. Maybe I could do the same here. Have students review books, but use different tags so the posts would be searchable by "mystery," "J.K. Rowling," etc...

3. Sharing Work - While students can easily share work on Google Docs, it is hard to share with the whole global population of classmates. Maybe I could easily have them share with their whole classmates.
